Transform your sewing skills and create stunning, couture-quality gowns in this 8-week live Zoom class with expert instructor Lynda Maynard. From muslin fitting to hand-finished details, this course guides you through every step of gown construction, with a focus on corselet foundations and professional techniques.
What You’ll Learn:
Drafting, fitting, and constructing a corselet
Working with linings, support fabrics, and stabilizers
Hand-finished techniques including overcasting, horsehair stabilization, and hand-picked zippers
Integrating gown, lining, and corselet for a flawless fit
Professional hemming and finishing touches
By the end of the course, you’ll have a beautifully crafted gown—or multiple garments—and the confidence to tackle advanced sewing projects with precision and flair. The class concludes with a virtual showcase of your completed work, celebrating your couture accomplishments!

Supplies:
Muslin for test garment
Muslin, batiste, or bobbinet for corselet
Fashion fabric for gown
Lining fabric for gown
Spiral boning (we will go over this in class)
1 yd. white or natural silk organza
Hook and eye tape for corselet
1 yd. (more for larger waistlines) grosgrain or petersham ribbon, 1’ to 1 1⁄4” wide
Nylon horsehair
Students will select a pattern of their choice. It should be a strapless dress with a fitted bodice.
