Fall Session II (begins October 21)

Alter Commercial Patterns

The student will learn how to superimpose the sloper/basic block onto the commercial pattern and assess needed adjustments before moving to the muslin test garment. The pattern will be altered and a muslin test garment will be made to check the fit. The pattern will be updated to reflect the fitting adjustments.

Tailoring Part II

The second class focuses on construction, including techniques for shaping and structure. By the end of this class, you will have constructed most of the jacket itself, excluding the lining. Pre-requisite class is Tailoring I, or consent of the instructor.

Bodice Sloper With Sleeve (Moulage)

The student will learn how to draft a pattern from measurements that fits the figure exactly. This is the moulage - no wearing ease added. Upon completion of the draft, the student will make a muslin test garment to check and adjust the fit. The student then creates a pattern, based upon that moulage, that includes wearing ease. This is the bodice sloper or bodice block and can be used as a starting point to create blouses, dresses, jackets, and coats. Once you have the bodice sloper, you will create an accompanying sleeve sloper. The sloper with sleeve will sewn up in muslin and fitted as well.

This class, or its equivalent, is a prerequisite for Drafting a Jacket/Coat and Altering Commercial Patterns.

Pants: Beyond the Basics

In this class, you'll use your pant sloper to create several different silhouette of pants. You'll draft a classic pleated trouser, with pockets and a waistband, a palazzo pant, cargo pants with pockets, a contoured pant, a wrap pant and various types of shorts.  You'll learn how to draft, and mix and match, elements such as waistbands, waist facings, fly-front and other zippers and pockets, pockets, pockets.

Pant / Jean Draft

The student will learn how to draft a basic pant pattern from measurements that fits the figure exactly. Upon completion of the draft, the student will make a muslin test garment to check and adjust the fit. Design details and style variations will be discussed.

Gowns & Party Dresses

Have you ever wondered how those stunning gowns on the red carpet stay properly positioned with no wardrobe malfunctions? In this class each student will create a beautiful one-of-a-kind gown or party dress that fits perfectly. The dress will be supported by a form-fitting boned facing that serves to keep everything in its proper place.
