Altering Commercial Patterns - $295, 8-week.
The student will learn how to superimpose the sloper/basic block onto the commercial pattern and assess needed adjustments before moving to the muslin test garment. The pattern will be altered and a muslin test garment will be made to check the fit. The pattern will be updated to reflect the fitting adjustments. Students must already have a well-fitting bodice sloper before taking this class.

Bias Basics Workshop - $250, 6-week
Garments cut on true bias drape beautifully; they are body conscious, comfortable, and flattering. In this class we will learn how to prepare a pattern for bias, including the layout, cutting and marking of the fabric. You will also learn stabilizing techniques, pressing and constructions techniques and finish techniques for sewing garments cut on the bias.

Bodice Sloper / Moulage  - $295, 8-weekThe student will learn how to draft a hip-length, bodice pattern from measurements that fits the figure exactly. Upon completion of the draft, the student will make a muslin test garment to check and adjust the fit. Wearing ease will be added  to the adjusted pattern to create a basic bodice block, or bodice sloper. You will also draft a sleeve for your bodice sloper.

Bustier Workshop - $250, 6-week
We will use coutil, spiral boning, and fashion fabric to create this uniquely feminine garment that flatters all figures and ages. The bustier can be worn alone, under a jacket, or over a tee. It can dress up (silk, satin, velvet) or down (denim, tweed, suede).  We will apply bones to counteract gravity and prevent wardrobe malfunctions.
Have you ever wondered what supports all those gowns parading down the red carpet? As an alternative, the lighter version (corselet) functions as a boned facing to support the strapless gown along with the figure of the wearer.

Cage Skirts and Petticoats, $250, 6-week
Cage skirts were once exclusively worn under voluminous, heavy dresses and outer skirts as a support. Now, cage skirts can be seen and celebrated as an outer garment or accessory. They are fun, versatile and they definitely make a statement. Cage skirts can stand alone or be adorned. Petticoats have also found a new freedom and function for party and evening wear. We will add a pair of bloomers to complete the trio.

Copying Ready to Wear, $250, 6-week
We all have a favorite garment that has taken up residence in our closet in hopes of duplicating it one day. This class will help achieve that goal. We begin by analyzing the grain of the fabric and how it was manipulated to create the garment. Using the “rub-off” method, we will align the grainlines of the patterning fabric (silk organza) to those of the garment. Once the pattern has been obtained, including all markings and design details, we will transfer to paper for truing and refining all lines and curves. Once this is done, a muslin test garment will be made to check for accuracy and personalize the fit.

Learn how to make a pattern from an existing garment without actually taking the garment apart. Once the pattern is generated, the student will make a muslin test garment to check for accuracy.
